We of Wuffingas, like to work with as many groups, and Living History organizations as we can. We discourage no one from working in and playing with, -any organization, and we DO NOT recruit from with in the ranks of the SCA "Kingdoms". I have a few personal close friends who have joined me here, ...that is their right and privilege and I welcome their support.

In the last twenty years, many Authenticity progressive, and Period minded SCA households, have brought this change about very slowly within that Society. At one time 1966-1995, carpet "armor", plastic "pickle barrel" Coats of "plates", ...plastic "gauntlets" surcoats over modern dress, with freon can helms was the excepted practice among the SCA in the US. No more. Today we are seeing more and more period correct encampments, historical armour in time period specific battle scenario's, historically accurate tentage, accouterments, camp gear, furniture, garb, and the list goes on. This page is for those in Wuffingas who desire to strive towards a period Viking, Saxon, or Norman Persona. Many of these links are to groups active in the UK, Europe, and elsewhere. They meet or exceed the Wuffingas standard, and are thanked for all the scholarship, hard work, and attention to detail.

"Viking" really is a romantic Victorian misnomer. Most Viking "raids" -(isn't that a nice little word)? We're not raping your wife, burning your house, and spreading your fathers lungs out on the ground,...we're raiding! The Danes, -of which I am descended, ..."From the Fury of the Northmen, Lord deliver us"? -were little more than Scandinavian Pirates, shedding innocent blood, and carving out a swath of destruction, death, and extortion, oh, I mean,..."tribute", -Dane Geld,...no different than bad guys like, Drive by Thugs, Billy the Kid, or The Great Kahn's. Romantisized by Hollywood, comic books, and our "dream", we like to think it was different. We like to paint a happy picture of a time when: "To the Victor goes the spoils" leaving the reality at the door. So it was in the days of yore! Stolen property, raped woman, captured slaves, Warlords confiscating land,...all in a days work in 780 AD. Of course we try and "recreate" what they wore, and how they fought in a shield wall, and what they ate, how they worked, what they believed, how they spoke, loved, learned,...leaving out "the bad stuff". For instance we'd greatly discourage anyone from playing the part of a captured Slave, or fostering real hatred or resentment towards someone with a "enemy's" persona.
